I am sorry to break the news that on Sunday 7th May Bristol OK honorary life member Margarette Parker has passed away at eighty after a great life full of many and varied achievements. Klub members may remember Margarette and as a regular competitor or ever present in the BOK tent at multi-days or as a wonderful hostess at many and varied social occasions. When they think of Margarette they will inevitably think of John and Margarette as team; a Morecombe and Wise spreading humour and sunshine to all they met.
Margarette had been a long term Klub treasurer, but it was through her organisational skills that she gave her major contribution to British Orienteering. She successful organised many events including: Badge, National, British Relays and three JKs. Many of our current practices have evolved from her ideas which she was always more than ready to share.
I am sure Klub member’s thoughts and wishes will be with John and the family: the children Mike, Louise and Steve and grandchildren; the Daniels Charlie, Laura (Goy), Holly and the Danes Andreas and Emma.
The Family have arranged a funeral at South Bristol Crematorium at 15.45 on 25 May, to which Orienteers, both present and past would be very welcome.
John has asked that there be a positive view on her life, come dressed in whatever you feel comfortable. Margarette did not want flowers and would prefer donations to be made to a charity so the hospice who provided her care and our support has been nominated: www.dorothyhouse-hospice.co.uk
The family do not need to know if you will be attending the service, but it would be helpful if you could indicate to email@example.com if you intend to attend the reception.
