March 2020 COVID19 Update - All Orienteering Activities Suspended until End of May

British Orienteering have announced that all orienteering activities have been suspended - the following statement was released:

"It is with great sadness that we are now in a position where all orienteering activities in the UK have to be suspended with immediate effect.

We are aware that the Coranvirus outbreak is a very fluid and rapidly changing situation. We all, therefore, continue to follow advice from the Public Health England, the World Health Organisation and both local and national governments on this matter and will keep the orienteering community updated as appropriate.

We know how great the sport is at supporting each other and we ask that you continue to pull together (albeit virtually) during this difficult time. We will do our best to get you back in the forests as soon as it is safe to do so.

Finally, we ask that you continue to follow the government's guidance on how to prevent the spread of Coronavirus. Please stay safe and support each other during this hard time.

Best wishes

Peter Hart
Chief Executive, British Orienteering"

The immediate impact for local Bristol events is that:

  • the BOK Trot, scheduled for 5th April, is postponed until further notice
  • tuesday night 'Pub Run' activity is suspended until further notice (we will be sharing suggested training routes etc for individuals via our facebook group - and routes are also available from the BOK Plotaroute Page)
  • Track to Terrain will be postponed to 2021
  • Early events in the Bristol Urban Orienteering Series will be postponed and we will look to re-schedule for later in the year where possible

We are expecting further clarification and are our other future events and intend to make further announcements in the near future.
