The gloomy skies and rain of earlier in the day cleared just in time for a wonderful sunny evening of urban racing at Bradford on Avon. The new area for BOK proved to require strong legs for the steep hilly and complex area to the north of the river, and careful route choice on the longer controls south of the river.
High temperatures and exposed hillsides didn’t deter the BOK Junior squad from putting in a set of high quality performances in the Yvette Baker Qualifier at the Wavering Down Regional Event. The team came 1st, achieving a score of 897, taking them forward to the final in July.
Our 2nd race in the BOK Urban Orienteering Series took us to Emersons Green and the tricky hillsides of Rodway Common. All courses started with controls that went into the complex contoured forest area, which proved a challenge for competitors with many comments afterwards about lost time trying to ‘find number 1’. This didn’t seem to put people off though, as the overwhelming feedback after the race was that the mix of forest and urban on a sunny Wednesday evening was the right combination of fun and challenging.
Our May 2022 edition of the newsletter is now available. With over 150 entries, the first event of the BOK Urban Orienteering Series 2022 proved to be an exciting race at a complex (and hilly) Bristol University Halls campus. Last years season opener at the end of April was not blessed with the best of weather (those that were there might remember the constant rain and dark skies). However, despite the evening being pretty cold this year the weather was good to us and we even had a beautiful sunset to view over the Bristol Channel whilst standing at the finish and watching late starters come in.
April 2022 Newsletter now available, with articles on JK2022, Track to Terrain, BOK Urban Series, and other big events coming up this year. Our volunteer profile this month is of John Parfitt.
