BOK will be hosting a day's tuition on Saturday 11th March at Henbury Village Hall and Blaise Castle for those interested in planning orienteering courses. The tuition will follow the British Orienteering syllabus and cover all the skills necessary to plan a local or regional event. There will be no fee for BOK members. Places will be limited, therefore please book early by contacting Mark Saunders, the course tutor. If you don't have his contact details send a message to the Chairman using the 'Contact Us' facility at the top of the page.
The club has decided to provide on-line entry for all our day events in 2017. It is now available for all events up to March at the same cost as entry on the day, at http://www.fabian4.co.uk. This will save competitors having to queue at registration and fill in a paper entry form. Instead those with their own dibber will be able to go directly to the start. It will also ensure that competitor's details are correctly recorded, thereby helping ensure league and ranking results are correct.
My November Challenge was won jointly by Howard and Tereza who each attended 8 events. I will be presenting their prizes of a bottle of wine at Long Valley on Sunday. The December challenge has been live on the club's Facebook Chat group for a while now. It is to see who has the fastest split from control 2 to 3 at any event for which split times are published. If you are not a member of the chat group why not go to https://www.facebook.com/groups/bristolok/ and apply now?
We have decided to trial extending the online entry window for Urban & Park races. You can enter Races 3 - 6 up to midnight of the day before. Enter now for tomorrow's race to save yourself £1 and avoid having to fill in a paper form. If this is manageable by the Computer Team and generates sufficient extra entries we will do the same for Races 6 - 12.
Congratulations to Mark Saunders on his selection by British Orienteering for the 2016 Silva Award. This is awarded annually to a person who has made a very significant contribution to orienteering over a period of years, with an emphasis on ‘field' activities rather than committee work.
The Klub needs volunteers to assist with the running of the Klub, including assisting with gaining land access permission, membership, co-ordinating the urban and park series from 2017 and planning fixtures. Further details are in BOK News. If you are interested in any of these roles please speak to the current incumbent or Howard Thomas.
For those who have forgotten, or maybe never knew, the South-West Orienteering Association newsletter (SINS) is available online at http://www.sworienteeringassociation.co.uk/magazine.php.
